A business support career at Bell Gully

Michael McCarthy

Position: Information services administrator
Department: Information Services

I have worked across three departments since joining Bell Gully in 2006. I started temping in a data administration role with the Business Development team, moved on to cover the role of HR secretary and then established the role of HR administrator.

I then took on the permanent role of information services administrator. The IS administrator role is a varied and busy one. It involves co-ordinating the hard copy and online subscriptions for our law and business journals and serials and distributing them; updating and administering our online contents pages for journals and new books and managing requests for journal articles; opening and processing all the IS mail; collecting and checking in books that have been loaned out; acting as PA to the IS Manager; and providing general administrative support to the IS team.

I had not worked in a professional services firm before so was a little apprehensive about finding a very 'dry' environment. But I have been delighted to find a firm of smart, competent people, who are also warm, friendly and approachable.

I've seen Bell Gully from a lot of different angles, and for me, the firm's greatest strength is its culture. It's created by the attitude and approach of its people and a real commitment from the partners to strengthen and maintain that culture.
