Tom Bennett
Tom is a commercial law partner specialising in local government, construction and infrastructure projects.
He has broad commercial experience, covering business acquisitions and disposals, joint venture/shareholder arrangements and other commercial contracts, as well as advising overseas companies investing in New Zealand. In addition, he has a particular specialisation in construction and infrastructure projects and local government law.
Tom is a legal advisor to Auckland Council and its controlled organisations Auckland Transport, Auckland Waterfront Development Agency and Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development Agency.
He advises Auckland Transport, which is responsible for Auckland's transport system, on public transport services and infrastructure. He advised on the Auckland rail project (which has included the procurement of a new operator, refurbishment of rolling stock, new EMU supply and maintenance, and the redevelopment of railway stations and ferry terminals, as well as the proposed CBD rail tunnel), the Auckland integrated fares smartcard project and the introduction of the public transport operating model (PTOM).
Tom is recognised as a leading individual in public law in Chambers Asia Pacific 2012, the premier legal directory based on independent research and analysis, which notes that he "has 'an excellent reputation' in the commercial side of public law."
